Before adding favicon to blogger blog do you know what a favicon is. If you do not know then you should read about favicon.
What is a Favicon ?
According to Wikipedia ” A favicon (short for favorites icon) is known as shortcut icon, Websites icon, URL icon , or bookmark icon. It is a file containing one or more small icons in either .png form or .ico or .gif form most commonly in 16X16 pixels associated with a particular website or a blog.”
Blogger adds its own favicon if you have not used a custom favicon. If you are a new person that is looking to add favicon to your blogger blog or blogspot blog to give it a different look then others blogspot blogs then you need to have a custom icon for your site. It can be either a png file ( can be converted to ico ) or an .ico file.
Steps to Add Favicon to Blogger Blog
Earlier it was not possible to upload favicons to Blogger/Blogspot blogs but blogger have now provided this feature in their blogs. In earlier days we used to host favicon on different domains where uploading png icons or .ico files were permitted. These days it is just three step process if you have your own custom icon or favicon ready.
Step 1 :Getting your Favicon Ready :
There are tons of websites* offering free png icons which you may use to create a .png based icon for your blogspot blog or if you know anything in Adobe Fireworks, Photoshop etc design software’s. Even if you have any idea of default Windows Paint you might be able to create a favicon.
Step 2: Login into your Account
Log in to your Blogger Account. As you log in to your blogger account you will see many blogs that you have added to your blogger account. Like the image below.
Select the Design link from any of the blogs as shown above. This will take you to next step i.e Page Elements section on Design Tab of your blogger dashboard.
Step 3: Edit Page Elements
As you have reached the Page Elements , you might be able to see the new page element added to blogger template i.e. Favicon on the top of each and every element as shown in the image below
As soon as you reached this page above , you have done 90% of your work in changing favicon in blogger/blogspot blog. Only one more step remains after which you can see the changed favicon. Click the edit button, after clicking the edit button – a new window will open as shown below.
Step 4: Upload Favicon
If you have favicon ready then Click Choose File and then upload the file. Blogger accepts both types of favicon png type favicon and ico types favicon.
As you can see, I have changed the favicon of the Blogger blog. Be sure to click the Save button before you close the window. Your Favicon has been saved and you can see new favicon on the Page Elements Screen. Click Save button on the Page Elements screen as well so that your template gets updated with the favicon of your choice.
